Resolved: the United States Federal Government should substantially increase the number of and/or substantially expand beneficiary eligibility for its visas for one or more of the following: employment-based immigrant visas, nonimmigrant temporary worker visas, family-based visas, human trafficking-based visas.

The Georgia Debate Union will again be holding a "pre-season retreat" on the UGA campus.

When: Monday, August 9 – Friday, August 13.  This is the week before classes begin (first day is Monday, August 16).

Where: First two days will again be in Georgia Center, then we will move to meeting in the squad room in Phi Kappa Hall.

What: Team orientation, topic introduction, argument lectures, practice speeches, and research. Every thing we need to do to win next year.

The Georgia Debate Union has produced a letter for high schools to use while recruiting students to their debate teams.

It emphasizes the benefits of debate, including for college admissions, research skills, travel, and fun.

The 2010 Debaters' Choice Awards have named Mike Lacy (UGA '12) the Best Rising Junior in the United States.

The DCA is a result of student voting from all college debate teams and reflects the respect Mike has earned from his peers during his already highly successful career.

Senior Karen Harrison recently completed her college debate career at UGA. Originally from Celebration, Florida (home of Disney), she debated for Wake Forest University for two years before transferring to Georgia.

She finished with a very successful career, clearing at multiple national tournaments, capped off with wins over two first round at-large bid teams en route to the Quarterfinals of the 180+ team University of Texas tournament. Karen twice qualified to the NDT.
